Why do we dance? What started as a curiosity in the San Francisco underground rave scene has turned into a life-long obsession. Equal parts observer, story teller, and mad scientist, Cptn Jay has been moving dance floors all around the world since those first vinyl sets in 1998, all in his never ending quest for that perfect beat.
Now almost 20 years later Cptn Jay is a visionary co-founder of the Airpusher Collective, a premiere Burning Man sound, events and building community based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Influenced in his early days by his father's funk & blues record collection and later by his travels to dance floors around the world, Cptn Jay's eclectic sets are consistently fun: filled with heart & soul, swooping melodies, and chugging baselines, all tastefully infused with world rhythms. Obsessed with putting the "dance" back into "dance music", his unique blend of stripped down funky deep house, techno of all types and world grooves consistently get dance floors pumping.
Never a slave to a single genre, his sets are a journey. Most heavily influenced musically by DJs Sasha, Sven Vath and DJ Dan, Cptn Jay consistently takes his dance floors through movements of melodies layered over deep, percussive grooves. This unique blend of quality sounds has gotten Cptn Jay two radio shows, his own radio “Stratosphere” on EJR.com and Proton Radio, as well as “De La Playa” on the Krafted Radio network.
From the deserts of Burning Man to the islands of Japan, the mountains of South America to California coasts, Cptn Jay has shared the stage with many of the world's top DJ talent and received tips of the cap from the likes of Giome, DJ Dan, Developer, Gigamesh, Tycho, Christain Martin, Soul Button, Miyagi, DJ Mes and many more. With his own remixes and mashups always on hand, an international tour in the books, and singles due out in 2017, Cptn Jay and Airpusher are primed to be the new voices of the San Francisco underground.
