Very early in his life, Alon Shapiro aka Sapiens showed his endless love for music. The talented child began to play piano at the age of 5, and later received an early classical piano education. Throughout his life and until this day, Alon has resonated as a serious melomane. As a young vinyl freak, he spent his teenage years digging for, collecting and recording music from any available source. Utilizing simple home recording methods, he then began to make his first 90-minute cassette mixes for friends' parties.

Such humble beginnings owe inspiration to Alon’s favorite underground genres; psychedelic & progressive rock, funky & acid jazz, dark new wave and ethnic fusion. As time and music progressed, Alon discovered the intelligent electronic music of the early-90s. Musicians like Jean Michele-Jarre, The Orb, Kraftwerk, R.Miles, St. Germain and Kruder & Dorfmeister continue to influence on Alon’s own contemporary musical ventures. The passion for music has become more mature with the years, and Alon has been constantly digging-up the most innovative, intelligent and eclectic sounds for his numerous live sets and production projects. Alon’s formal musical education culminated when he graduated in Electronic Production and Sound Synthesis from the legendary Tel-Aviv’s BPM school of musical arts. He was also fortunate to take private master classes from the best electronic producers Israel has to offer.

Alon has played in clubs, bars and outdoor events all over Israel and abroad since 2004. Throughout the years, he has been fortunate enough to perform alongside renowned talents like Jamie Stevens, DJ Slater, Weekend Heroes, Luis Junior, Tiger Stripes, Stereo Underground and many others and has become known for his unique musical taste. Some would describe it as sophisticatedly “intelligent” - his slowly evolving, pumping live sets and harmonic mixing techniques combine versatile genres, rhythmic drive and groovy vocal samples into a singular yet manifold composition, sure to do proper damage on any dance floor.

Since 2008, Alon has produced original music - usually in deep techno or deep and melodic house styles - under the moniker “Sapiens.” He has established several successful electronic music lines in Israel including Miniprog Sessions, Urban Deepsters, DeepSpeeD, Deep Inside and his alternative individual project #Ear (SharpEar), mainly concentrating on Chicago/Detroit Deep, Nu Disco and Soulful House. 

Sapiens is credited with over 20 productions (Eps and features) on some of the most-respected, underground record labels - Baroque, Particles, 238W, Suffused, Yin and Stellar Fountain. His original themes were remixed by mighty artists like Inkfish, James Monro, Rick Pier O’Neil and others. Sapiens consistently features as a guest mixer for well-known radio podcasts like “Groundworx Sessions” on Siren 107.3 FM (UK), “Suffused Diary” on FRISKY Radio, Triplefire Music and Pangea Radio Show for DI.FM.
